Concurrent Planning

A process for developing and simultaneously working alternative permanence plans. A Supplemental Plan is the formal output of a concurrent planning process.

ILF Consensus

We agree that at a minimum:

bullet

Concurrent planning must be done on all custody cases

bullet

An actual supplemental plan must be produced by the first SAR for all custody cases, but can be produced at any point from the opening of the ongoing case up to the 1st SAR.

bullet

The enactment of the Supplemental Plan can be triggered by a wide variety of scenarios, but the basic trigger is that the primary plan is not being adhered to and is not producing progress toward the family's goal.

Also note that there is wide variation in documentation requirements across the counties. A Supplemental Plan may take the form of a separate plan, or be incorporated into the primary plan - in many cases this decision is driven by the requirements of the local courts.

Actions Identified:

a.       Develop a shared values statement here as we did with Family Group Conferencing

b.      There is a wide variety of documentation approached – there is value in developing a standard for “minimum documentation requirements” although the court influences documentation needs in each county.
